Membership Information

The members of Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship invite you to explore membership in our congregation.

We offer a liberal religious community in which people freely explore, develop and celebrate meaning, values and purposes of their lives.

People join because they want to affirm the purposes and principles of our free religious tradition.

People join because here they enjoy a community of kindred spirits with whom they feel safe, welcomed, appreciated and respected.

People join because here they experience spiritual growth for themselves and their children.

People join because here they find beliefs and values put into action through social outreach and education.

We require no creedal tests and no professions of dogma or doctrine.

For us, membership is a covenant to walk together in fellowship and love.

We ask only for an honest desire to participate in and support the life and work of the congregation.

Membership is open to all individuals, eighteen years of age or older.

Because the health and vitality of the congregation depend upon the support and commitment of the members, we ask that people make an annual pledge of financial support to the operating budget and volunteer their time.

By signing the membership book an individual makes a commitment to the Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

The Board of Directors confirms and welcomes them as members.

All ARE WELCOME

We welcome and include Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender [LGBT] persons at every level of congregational life; in worship, in programs, in social occasions, and in rites of passage. We welcome not only their presence, but the gifts and particularities of their lives as well.

Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (OUUF) is a serious spiritual alternative for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender [LGBT] community.

We are a spiritual fellowship dedicated to providing a welcoming community where individuals can develop their spirituality free from imposed dogma and creed.

We are fundamentally committed to an ethical basis for living in accordance with Unitarian Universalist principles which unite us to relieve social injustice and improve our communities.

Since 1970, Unitarian Universalists have supported the rights of the LGBT community.

We have advocated same gender marriage, the right to serve in the military, the right to lead congregations as ministers and religious professionals, and the right to be parents.

And lastly, we are a leading voice in the work to end hate crimes.

As Universalist Unitarians, we affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identification.

As a Welcoming Congregation, we extend a special invitation to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender persons.

Why We Reach Out To Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender [LGBT] Persons

For centuries, churches have engaged in organized, formal oppression of sexual minorities.

Many churches continue to preach homophobia from their pulpits and are openly hostile to LGBT individuals and communities.

Such attitudes promote continued discrimination and denial of basic civil rights based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

The Olympic Unitarian Universal Fellowship saw a need to become intentionally more inclusive of LGBT persons by becoming a Welcoming Congregation.

All who make our congregation their spiritual home receive the same affirmation, love, and caring.

Their needs are addressed in worship, in social occasions, and rites of passage, including services of union and memorial.

We welcome not only their presence, but the gifts and particularities of their lives as well.

Continuing Commitment

A Welcoming Congregation Committee with members of various sexual orientation and/or gender identities was formed to present educational programs and answer questions.

We had a workshop series and film festival to increase understanding and acceptance among people of different sexual orientations.

After an overwhelming affirmative vote, OUUF has been granted Official Status as a Welcoming Congregation by the Unitarian Universalist Association!
