OPPORTUNITIES TO BE INVOLVED IN MAKING SURE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES HAVE FOOD

Our congregation believes in deeds not creeds, so here are two opportunities to help make sure children have lunch while out of school and helping distribute the abundance of food in gardens to people who need it.

SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM to ensure children in Sequim have lunch Monday through Friday while out of school and a food package for the weekend.  Our congregation has participated in this activity since it was started.  Our weeks to participate this year are the week of August 6-10 and August 20-24.  Sign up on the bulletin board to the right of the entrance door to the sanctuary. It is fun, easy and rewarding to you and the children (and their little tummies are especially thankful). Questions – contact Greg Sensiba at SensibaG@hotmail.com  or 360-683-8914.

The other program is CLALLAM COUNTY GLEANERS.  Throughout the gardening season, folks are needed to pick vegetables and fruit in gardens that have abundance.  Half of the harvested food goes to the Food Bank (Sequim or PA). The gleaner may keep half and may share with friends or neighbors. George and Jolie Will have been doing this and are happy to answer questions – GeorgeandJolie@yahoo.com  or 360-683-4037.  If you want to sign up to be a gleaner (you only go when your calendar allows), contact Sharah Truett at the WSU Extension Office, struett@co.clallam.wa.us or 360-565-2619.  You could form a Gleaner group from the congregation if you want!  If you have extra food – like fruit trees or other food items that produce more than you can use, call Sharah and have gleaners come pick it to distribute – a win-win.
